The ICJ has just now ruled that Pedra Branca / Pulau Batu Puteh belongs to Singapore. However, the maritime feature called Middle Rocks has been ruled in favour of Malaysia. The status of the third feature, a tidal elevation called South Ledge (visible only at low tide) is still open-ended.
In the almost two-hour reading of the judgement, the President of the Court Judge Al-Khasawneh, elaborated on various observations and considerations of both parties arguements.
If I was to put it simply on why we lost, it was because Malaysia did not show any objections or disputed Singapore's actions on the island or show any interest in claiming the island throughout the period from when the Horsburgh lighthouse was built in 1851 to until 1979.
Just goes to show that silence is not always golden...
Anyway, I wish to thank the Malaysian team, headed by Tan Sri Abdul Kadir Mohamad for putting in a brilliant effort in presenting Malaysia's case.
Hope we learn something from this.
