A grand old man

Earlier this month, I was conferred the title of `datuk'. Our niece, Melati Bt. Razak, safely delivered her second baby girl at the Kota Tinggi District Hospital. Melati and her husband, Hasnul Asyraf, now have two daughters.

Yesterday, my sister-in-law held a thanksgiving ceremony (kenduri doa selamat dan cukur jambul) at their home in Kota Tinggi. My new grand-niece has been named Nurul Aqilah.

16-day old Nurul Aqilah in the arms of her grand-uncle Oldstock

This latest addition to our extended family is actually our tenth grandnephew or grandniece. My wife and I have been called `Tok' for about 8 years now. So you guys need not feel uneasy to call me Oldstock, okay?

Awwww, what a cute little girl. I love to see and smell a newborn baby. So sweet and innocent that it makes you feel sebak. Mudah-mudahan diberkati Allah swt kehidupannya.. Amin.

Hello datuk - the best kinda datuk, if you ask me!

And what a beautiful name she has - what does it mean - do you know?

Congratulations on the beautiful addition to your family.

Congratulations tok! You looked so natural with the baby in your arms.

A 'natural' datuk is much more honourable, if you asked me. But I was kind of disappointed to learn that it's still not your OWN grandchild (ie: child of your child's!). Oldstock? Aaahh.. the older the wiser, no?

Mamasita,

Bila dah ada cucu sedara tu, takleh panggil Newstock lagi, heheheh.

In Pahang, your grandchildren call you Tok or Nenek? Kat Johor ni, it's combination. My kids call my mum, Nenek. But my mum-in-law is referred to as Tok Mak.

Verse,

All our kids are boys. That's why I must cuddle the baby girls, especially the cute ones.

Kama,

I love the smell of newborn babies too. It brings the sense of hope and a new beginning. Thanks for the wishes.

Hello Pat,

The name means, Light of the Wise or Light of the Chosen One... depends on how the name is spelled in Arabic. Hmm... need to check back with the baby's mom on that.

Hi there Double-O,

So far, I'm a complete natural when it comes to holding babies.

The grandfather (my brother-in-law) is not brave enough to hold her like I do. Tunggu dia besar sikit, he said :-)

D,

Nak tunggu cucu sendiri lambat lagi la... My eldest is still studying. Lagipun anak-anak I semua lelaki. Kalau anak perempuan tu, ada peluang nak bermenantu cepat, ye tak? :-)

Mie,

Thanks. Mother and baby are both doing well, alhamdullilah, although my niece has a history of miscarriage.

Our next cucu sedara is due in a few months time.

On your side, bila nak bergelar Grandma?
