Blogging from Kuantan

If there is such a thing as an adopted hometown, then Kuantan would be mine. Perhaps I'll retire here...

I am in Kuantan now to attend the wedding of a nephew on my wife's side. The nikah ceremony would be held this morning but I don't want to wait after that to post something because I may not have the time. It would be a busy schedule to travel back to KL later today and then rush back to JB on Sunday morning for another wedding invitation there.

So to kill some time before breakfast, here's some pics taken in Kuantan.... what else but my favourite subject of food.

The first night here, we had dinner at The New Horizon Garden Restaurant. It's the second time we are there, the first being in December last year. It is a very cosy restaurant recommended by blogger Mamasita and I'd now probably be patronising the place every time I come to Kuantan. After the dinner, I uploaded one of the pics to my FB wall and immediately got a response from another Kuantan blogger-friend, Versedanggerik. Apparently she was also there at about the same time but she was dining with her friends on the upper floor. So near and yet so far...

Lunch the following day was at Restoran Wak Sofian, located in one of the old row of shophouses at Jalan Besar. This place serves minang food or what I call as nasi padang. Quite tasty. Reminds me of a nasi padang stall in JB I used to frequent for lunch during the early days of being a salaried worker.

The boys were first to dig in, as usual

Deep fried siakap Hongkong style

Sizzling spicy squid

Large squids cooked minang-style

mamasita,

Firstly, it's thanks from me to you for making the first call. I was in Kuantan on quite a tight schedule with not much time to jalan-jalan. That's why I did not inform any friends.

But I'm sure we'll have the chance to meet up pretty soon. Err... takyah la sampai nak buat bunga manggar tu, hehehe...

If you're going to retire in Kuantan Oldstock, it will be a new horizon in more ways than one ;)

a very hectic wedding schedule it seems this weekend sir. I have yet to visit that restaurant you mentioned in Kuantan, probably in one of my pit stops during my travel back to my hometown.

Have a pleasant and safe journey both ways.

Oldstock, samalah kita...
Kuantan has become my adopted hometown too :) Love the beach, the waterfall, the people, the food...nak criter mmg tak habis. In fact, just came back from there yesterday. Went to Bekelah with Versed Anggerik n Tok Snake and a few other friends and it was a blast ;) Kalau tau u ada, bole ajak join sekali...

Wah Oldstock, u must have covered half a million kilometres each year, not to mention consumed a million calories of food too…hahaha. It's probably a good idea for u to become a travelling food critic when u retire.

Is the Nasi Padang stall u mentioned in JB, happens to be Yong Nasi Padang opposite RMV in Jalan Larkin or Hwa Mui in Jalan Trus, ironic both r run by Chinamen too but it does taste authentic tho…hahaha. Are they still there?

Cheers,

Tommy

Kak Zen,

Maybe I'll never retire... too many things that I want to do.

Dr Sam, the restaurant I mentioned is really worth the pit stop.

I'm already back in JB yesterday afternoon and now dreading the travel back to KL tomorrow *sigh*

Eh, camne matahari boleh jadi dot pulak?

I've been wanting to go to Bekelah for some time now since the first time I see Ahan post the pics. Tapi nak gi sana kena plan to do just that, takleh nak buat benda lain at the same time, takut tak cukup masa. Maybe one of these days I'll take time off to enjoy Kuantan more.

Tommy,

I love travel and I love tasting new stuff at the places I travel to. I might just do what you suggest when I retire... if I do retire, that is.

Yong Nasi Padang used to be quite famous in JB some time back. One of their stalls was located in a Chinese coffee shop at Jln Ah Fook. It is no longer there.

Hwa Mui is still there at Jalan Trus. I used to go there for their tasty chicken chops.

The nasi padang stall I referred to was located at the old bus station next to where the present Persada is. It was run by a kindly pakcik who always greeted us with a friendly smile. It was walking distance from my office at Komtar. Alas, the stall is no more.

Hello!
Baru "wake up" in the blogging world. Been catching up on your posts :-)

I pernah pegi Kuantan sekali je, masa tu jumpa my frens kat MSM Kuantan (before they fly to US)
Kalau tak silap they all bawak I pegi kompleks teruntum, famous lepak place time tu, heh heh...
Entah ada lagi ke tak sekarang ni...
Must pay a visit to Kuantan again lah...looks like semua org kasi thumbs up for Kuantan!

Hi Noor,

Kuantan dah banyak perubahan... teruntum dah tak lagi the happening place. Sekarang dah ada berjaya megamall and a few other modern shopping complexes.
